Establishing a theme for the conference – The theme for this year’s conference is “Growing Our Partnerships”. Calvin Craig has been keeping the NCCCLRA webpage up-to-date. The dates of this year’s Conference are posted (July 26 (PreConference), 27, & 28). Mary Boone, the new State Librarian, and Dr. James Carmichael, Professor or Library and Information Studies at UNCG, will be keynote speakers.
Discussion of Michael Crumpton’s Conference survey results – There were 24 respondents to the survey. The program interests that were most often selected were trends and current issues, technology, reference techniques, research skills, and vendor products and services. Other suggestions included soft skills (time management, communication, organization skills, etc), leadership, state resources, and instructional ideas. Most respondents answered yes to participating in an evening event. Lorraine Krichko is trying to coordinate something such as a museum visit or speaker in the evening.
Updating LRA Manual – The idea of an ad hoc committee to review and update the manual was discussed. It was suggested that this be presented during the annual meeting and ask for volunteers to work on this committee.
Establishing a library Reference group – This idea can from several attendees of last year’s conference. A Reference Section can be formed if someone is willing to step up and commit to organize and get a Reference Section active. Donald Forbes will contact libraries to see if there is interest in organizing this.
